Feb. 6 and 7, 2016

SATURDAY, 2:00-5:00 pm

Experiential Anatomy & Therapeutics: the Sacrum

In this workshop we’ll explore the function, anatomy and potential vulnerability of the sacrum, as well as practice yoga asana, myofascial release techniques, and therapeutic exercises to support its balanced alignment and health.

SUNDAY, 10:45-1:45 pm

Illuminating the Inner Body: an Active Asana Practice This is where the rubber meets the road! Building on our explorations of sacral alignment, kinesiology, and our felt sense of the inner body, we’ll enjoy a comprehensive active asana sequence, applying our new-found strength and awareness to everyday yoga postures.

SUNDAY, 2:30-5:00 pm

Yin Yoga & Myofascial Release Through the practice of mostly passive, long-held postures and myofascial release, we’ll unwind our trouble spots, and prepare the body for deep relaxation. Bring an eye bag and dress in layers.

All workshops are appropriate for teachers and students with at least one year of consistent hatha yoga practice, or by permission of the instructor. All props will be provided. Continuing education units are available through Yoga Alliance.

Please note: Ada teaches in a progressive manner. Students are encouraged to attend all three sessions.

Yin Yoga Series
Ruby Alcartado

Fridays, Feb 19, - Mar 26 2016
4:30 - 5:45 p.m.

Yin Yoga is a restorative practice where postures are held gently, for three or more minutes. Yin Yoga is done primarily on the floor or at the wall while the body is being supported with blankets and props, as needed. The long, meditative holds of Yin Yoga deeply calms the nervous system, quiets the mind, and gently releases muscle and connective tissues surrounding bones, ligaments, and joints. In these classes we will move through a series of gentle stretching postures. The postures will be targeted toward stretching and stimulating connective tissue, which is most prevalent in the pelvis, hips, lower back, spine and sacroiliac joint. The areas that cause problems as we age, according to Paul Grilley, who is credited as the founder of Yin Yoga.

Yoga for Students with Joint Replacements (Teachers Only)
with Charlotte Norton and Jennifer Sadugor

February 27: 2 - 4 p.m.

One of the best things about yoga is how easily it can be adapted to meet the needs of practically anyone willing to give it a try. There’s no one- size-fits-all yoga class, which is why it’s so important for teachers to become well versed in modifying the practice to different conditions and body types. Perhaps one of the fastest growing groups of yogis is the Baby Boomer generation. Knee replacement surgeries have doubled over the last decade and more than tripled in the 45-to-64 age group, new research shows. Hips are trending that way, too. This class will help you to better understand the pathophysiology of common total joint replacements. You will learn strategies to safely help your students with total joint replacements practice yoga and build a healthy lifestyle. Several of our students who have had a joint replacement will be there to share their experience and how their yoga practice is today.

Cost:

$20 if paid by Feb 14th;
$35 thereafter.

Cancellations prior to Feb 14th will be refunded minus a $10 admin fee;
