Spring Renewal Workshop

Join us for an afternoon of renewal and relaxation as we welcome in the warmer months of Spring. In this Spring Renewal workshop we will gently move through a series of yin and restorative asanas (poses) that will help to deeply relax the body, soothe and calm the nervous system, and boost the immune system. Through the practice of yin yoga, poses will be held for between 3-5 minutes in order to target the connective tissues, ligaments, bones, and the fascia. Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that systematically guides and relaxes you at every level of being. While in various restorative poses you will be guided through the yoga nidra meditation practice of total body relaxation, breath awareness, and a guided visualization. Hot river stones will be offered to deepen your relaxation in the yin and restorative poses. Take the time to slow down and relax in this Spring Renewal workshop.

Yin Yoga Series

Yin Yoga is a restorative practice where postures are held gently, for three or more minutes. Yin Yoga is done primarily on the floor or at the wall while the body is being supported with blankets and props, as needed. The long, meditative holds of Yin Yoga deeply calms the nervous system, quiets the mind, and gently releases muscle and connective tissues surrounding bones, ligaments, and joints. In these classes the postures will be targeted toward stretching and stimulating the connective tissue, which is most prevalent in the pelvis, hips, lower back spine and sacroiliac joint. According to Paul Grilley, who is credited as the founder of Yin Yoga, these are the areas of the body that can cause problems as we age.

As there is a progression to learning asana in general, there is also a progression to organizing the body, breath and intelligence to safely approach the twisting asana. The benefits of twisting asana include rejuvenation of the spine, toning of the organic body, and "new horizons of tranquility of the mind."

Embodied Awareness
Meditation/Yoga Workshop with Patricia Cornelius

5 Week Series
April 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29; 5:30 - 6:45 p.m.

Cost: $50 if paid by March 25; $60 Thereafter; $15 drop in.

Embodied Awareness integrates and embodies the practice of meditation, yoga asana and mindful awareness. Integration of mind and body opens pathways to discovering and claiming our intentions to be present. Embodied Awareness is a practice in which we walk, talk and move through the world. This practice supports connecting to ourselves and to others. Students will enjoy an opportunity to recognize and release thoughts without judgment. We will use breath as well as sound and sensation as ways of anchoring ourselves to experience the present moment. We will encompass mindfulness and awareness while seated as well as with movement. Each session will build on the next allowing for gradual integration. All levels of practice are welcome.

Managing Anxiety & Stress: A Holistic Approach

In this workshop we will be exploring natural treatments to reducing anxiety and stress. We will present research on the benefits of herbs, vitamins, diet, mindfulness, & yoga to stress and anxiety reduction.

The afternoon will include guided meditations and a mindful eating exercise. The workshop will be led by a naturopathic doctor, psychiatrist & psychologist. Join Drs. Antonella Aguilera-Ruiz, Brian Mackin, & Marla McMahon for this informative workshop.
