The concept and use of ropes is a creation and work of BKS Iyengar.
Wall ropes are used to help students become more aware of their alignment and open areas of the body that might be difficult for them to reach without the use of the ropes. You can also use them in special therapeutic situations, where students need extra support for reasons such as disabilities, injuries, medical issues, etc. Ropes can also be used to stretch and strengthen very specific areas of the body. In standing poses, rope work takes the load off of the lumbar area.
